College is Coming

Yes, home schoolers go to college! The time to get ready is not senior year. Let’s get started now with thinking about what you will need. Here’s 5 Easy Ways to Start! Even if you have very young children.

  1. Volunteer Resume-This looks like a job resume. Start keeping track of everything. List the activity, the person in charge , the hours and the school year. Start in junior high. Include tutoring jobs, church volunteer work, community service, new skills your child learns, standardized test scores.
  2. Collect Reference Letters-Start saving those letters. Help out at Vacation Bible School?-Ask the adult in charge for a reference letter. Save thank you letters from parents and other adults that you have helped.
  3. Request College Catalogs-Start reading. Look at what classes and tests the school requires. My older son took the SAT his sophomore year. He didn’t study at all-he just wanted to see what it was like. Doing it this way helped him get motivated for the next test.
  4. Take College Classes now, at your community college. My youngest son started classes in 7th grade. He took one each semester but it was great practice and will look wonderful on college applications.
  5. Visit college campuses so that your children have an idea what a college is. this will give them a vision for the future.
