Withdrawing From Public School

1. First, you need to check out the Home school laws for your state. Start hereĀ Home School Legal Defense Association

2. Do your research. You will want to request catalogs from all the big online home school programs including Kaplan, K12 and Connections Academy.

3. If you are a student, talk to your parents. If you need some help talking to your parents about homeschooling, check out this article.

If you are a parent, talk to your kids, and get them used to the idea of homeschooling.

4. Decide to do public home schooling (through an online school or charter school) or private home schooling.

-With private homeschooling, you and your parents will decide which books, materials and assignments will be required for your education. This will have to match up with any your state’s requirements for High School. If you plan on going to college, make sure and look at college websites so that the courses you put together, will cover their admission requirements.
-With public home schooling, make sure the online or charter school you choose is accredited if the college you will be attending requires accreditation.

5. If you are a high school student….Find a parent or trusted adult to hold you accountable for getting your work done. Check in with them weekly.

6. Get Started-Enroll online or notify and file the necessary paperwork for your state. You are on your way to a great education.
