Here is another option for online education. The UCLA Online Certificate program is for students over age 18 but would be a perfect fit for someone who doesn't necessarily want to take four years of traditional college. It will save families thousands of dollars and so much time. And when the program is completed, you will have a professional certificate from UCLA.
The program is open to residents of the US. It is a 9 to 12 month program with classes starting every quarter. Participants take two classes at a time. All the classes are online and include discussion boards, reading and projects. The school gives you and I-pad as part of the program. At present, the Empower Ed UCLA Extension costs $9000 for the year.
Because the program is new it is being discounted by $3000. So in the future it will cost $12,000. This seems like a bargain to me considering most private colleges cost between $30,000 and $50,000 a year. And this program does not require an undergraduate degree (aside from 2 of the certific).
UCLA Empower offers certificates in Project Management, Marketing and New Media, IT Management, College Admissions, Global Sustainability, Human Resources, Health Care Management, Nonprofit Management, Financial Planning and Patient Advocacy. The program also offers scholarships.
This is just another indication of the shift to online learning and away from high priced college educations. The think I like about this program is that a student doesn't have to invest such a large amount of time and money into their education. So many students end of with degrees in fields they are no longer interested in. With the UCLA program, it would be possible to collect several certificates and make yourself very marketable in a short amount of time.
